Natural hair self care must do

One of my favourite self-care is trimming my hair.  I have 4c natural Afro hair, and in my case my hair grows super slow but what I find is regardless of the pace of the hair growth, trimming is absolutely essential because in the end without a trim your hair would be stunted and won’t grow and worst of all, the damage will carry on and in the end you will lose hair whether you want to or not.

I have a crazy obsession with hair which i’m always being told off for by my mother. I used to be so in love with straight white hair that it’s taken a while to love my own but I’ve gradually fallen back in love with it, although others say you can do so much with my type of hair , I’m always annoyed by that statement because different styles are difficult and takes a very long time. However, I keep on going. I keep my hair regularly trimmed and I attempt to learn new styles i can do. As a braider of my hair and the repulsing idea of others touching my hair, it’s in my best interest to learn to be creative with my hair. I have explored as much as I can at the moment , learning new skills like banku knots, finger curls and many more.

Trim your hair first and all things will come accordingly, trimming is very important because with 4c hair it is constantly getting tied up in tiny knots or even splitting, and knowing how the body works together, it really does affect the rest of the hair. So trim it out! Also, the joy of cutting your hair is incredible and when yours is so curly and an Afro you hardly have to worry about being uneven.

I would love to leave a voice note on this post because I don’t think the Sass can full show in this text. You ain’t got white girl hair! Natural black hair does not act the same. Greasy straight western hair is what people see as a nightmare and that tends to happen within 2-5 days, therefore they wash their hair regularly and use minimal products on it. This is not the case for Afro hair. Grease is good and over washing will kill your hair. I wash my hair every 2 weeks, I have even heard once a month. My non professional opinion will say once a week is as little as you can go. Grease is good for the hair. Good nourishing grease. You need to find the balance where your hair is clean and healthy and you got all your beauty products working its magic before wash day.

My second hair self car is washing your hair. You have to properly clean your hair and keeps it moisturised. Isn’t it so annoying when you finally have your hair stretched how you want and you can now style it just the way you like and suddenly wash day arrives. You have to start the whole process again. Those products you had been putting daily had been working their magic but it was time for them to leave. Some people even get scared of washing if they experience a lot of hair fallout. Avoiding it isn’t helping the hair all the more.

Look after your hair. We are all at different stages of our hair growth journey and we will get there if we look after our hair well.

P.s sorry Becky with the good hair. I will stop being jealous of your beautiful long hair and take of my own
