How to be more organised

This is truly one of the biggest things many people struggle with and without this, a lot of our goals and ambition seem a lot further than they actually are. (Okay tone it down miss cheery)

Most of us know what we want to do, what we want to achieve and most of the time, how we can achieve it. However, why aren’t we all doing this great thing? Because there are about 1 million cluttered things in front of you. Both physically and mentally. A lot of people are actually physically disorganised. This is in terms of their surroundings, and we all know that when things are a mess around us, it can put a strain on our focus.

The other half of the disorganised people have cluttered minds and habits. For example, you want to write that essay for your course, but you’re thinking about this and that and there are about 20 tv shows and a 100 YouTube videos you have to watch. I believe this is the hardest clutter because it’s a mind game, the more we stay like this, the weaker our mind becomes.

With a physical clutter, most people tend to believe you can just pack things away, and this is often true but sometimes this isn’t always the case with some due to lack of space. But let’s just say, there are ways to organise your physical clutter. What’s causing the clutter to come back days after you’ve just put everything away. Well simply put, it’s just the laziness to put it back right away. However what we don’t know is, it takes more time to put everything back at once than putting it back the moment we used. Of course, our lazy minds beg to differ.

Mental disorganisation is laziness and the lack of focus all joined in one. Truly hard to battle, but not impossible to overcome. Small steps are really the only answer. We all know we’re not going to overcome this and change overnight, but with small changes and resilience, we can become much better.

For me this began at school, procrastination over a long period of time with little or no negatives really makes you believe it’s not a bad thing. But it is definitely not a good thing. Think of all the things you could achieve if you limit your daydreaming time and tv time. Remember the shows aren’t going anywhere, but your time is.

Here are 5 ways to be more organised

•Do not multitask!!

•Use a daily planner

•Get rid of things you don’t need

•Declutter regular

•Allocates breaks and treats

Do Not Multitask

In all honesty, this is not for the weak-minded, in your journey to organisation, you need to have clear and simple tasks in front of you in order to lay all your focus on it and see your progress. Multitasking is one way to get too busy, overwhelmed and demotivated. Of course, as you become more focused and hardworking, multitasking will become second nature to you.

Multitasking is seen as a positive thing and it is, doing more than one thing at a time gives you the impression that things are getting done quicker, sometimes this is the case, but not always. What really happens sometimes is that you’re not giving enough attention to some tasks and they don’t come out as best as they could due to the lack of undivided attention. Like i said, this is present in some situations but not all.

Use a Daily Planner

Yes, I know you’ve tried it many times before and to no avail. You are not alone, i struggle with this so much. The having to remind yourself to write it down, and then check it regularly.

Making it a routine is the ultimate goal and the hardest thing, however, once the routine is down, you can begin to see noticeable differences in your life.

You can start with jotting down the biggest tasks and event. It’s important to time allocate them. It adds that extra bit of pressure to complete work in time. This also helps you understand your time better.

Get rid of things you don’t need

The minimalist lifestyle is trending for a reason. It not only looks good, but it also improves your productivity as there’s so much less to distract you, therefore you’re more focused.

You can start small of course. With clothes, the obvious ways are getting rid of things you haven’t worn in certain periods of time, then slowly moving up to the frequency of wear. Things in the hole can be also decided by its uses and the impression on the house.

We can be minimalist with our TV shows. Do we really need to have 20 tv shows going? Writing this is hard because I have just been obsessed with Korean dramas and I want to watch all the dramas I’ve missed in my life. But is that really going to help us achieve anything in our lives? The answer is not. So let’s be greedy with our work time and reduce tv time.

Allocate breaks and treats

This is more particular to if you are carrying out tasks. Organisation is key in completing a task well. So organising and allocating breaks and treats for those particular tasks will help you complete it well and within good time.

Breaks and treats are our own psychological way of motivating ourselves. It’s our own treats and breaks that we could have at any time but we still forward to it, and we want to work towards achieving it.

Declutter regularly

Very similar to getting rid of things you don’t need, however, it’s very easy for things to build back up again if you don’t regularly declutter. Little things always find a way back in and then the battle of we might need it for something and if you get rid of it, will you need it again, or can it be multipurpose. That cute (something) case, could it double as this? The issue with this thinking is, you probably already have lots of things in the house doubling as other things. You can let this one go.

Also, it’s not so many new things building up, but mess grows quick if we don’t put things straightaway or tidy up frequently. It saves you a lot more tile in the future if you put things away the moment you finish using it.
